Sharie has been involved in Lipoedema UK since its early beginnings. She initiated the development of its first patient survey in 2014 which exposed that only 5% of patients had been diagnosed by their GPs and how it took an average 30 years to obtain a diagnosis. These findings led to Sharie's involvement as part of the team to develop the RCGP’s e learning course on lipoedema.
In 2017, Sharie was part of the task force for Wounds UK Best Practice Guidelines, which is recognised internationally as the most comprehensive to date. Sharie has represented Lipoedema UK at numerous events including the ILF 2018 in Rotterdam, BLS annual conferences and the BJCN’s annual Lymphoedema Conference in London.
Sharie’s latest project is analysing and publishing the results of Lipoedema UK’s latest patient survey, Compression Garments and Liposuction as Treatments to Manage Lipoedema. Sharie has also been working with BBC TV on a feature on Lipoedema due to air shortly. In March 2019 Sharie take part in the 2nd Lipedema Forum on Lipoedema, an Essity sponsored event which will bring together leading medical experts from around Europe.
