Caitriona trained as a Registered General Nurse at Waterford Regional Hospital in the 1990s before moving to London to focus on a career in palliative care. Her passion for this field sparked a deep interest in lymphoedema, particularly in addressing gaps in service provision and inconsistencies in care.
In 2008, Caitriona joined the wound and lymphoedema team as the new Lymphoedema Service was being launched for Tower Hamlets, then part of the primary care trust. She is one of the founding members of the Accelerate CIC wound and lymphoedema team, a social enterprise (not-for-profit) that spun out of the NHS in 2011. A key aspect of her work with Accelerate CIC has been improving access to lymphoedema services in other boroughs across North East London, where services were previously unavailable.
From 2017 to 2023, Caitriona proudly served as a Trustee for the British Lymphology Society.
